County Championship D1, Canterbury, day one (stumps): Kent v Durham 401-5 Gordon Muchall hit a magnificent 193 not out as promoted Durham racked up 401-5 on day one against Kent. The 23-year-old hit 30 fours and put on 118 with Gary Pratt (52) to help his side recover from a shaky 52-2 after they had won the toss at Canterbury. A rash of wickets saw Durham slump to 233-5 but wicket-keeper Phil Mustard helped Muchall regain the initiative. Mustard made a composed 67 as the duo put on 168, with Min Patel (2-79) the only bowler to enjoy much success. On a slow pitch Muchall played fluently to register his fourth championship century off 164 balls. Mustard made the most of a drop by David Fulton off Simon Cook as he brought up his fifty off 93 balls.
This is Kent's 1st match of the Championship. Off to a bit of a rough start.
